What is Core Night?

Merrill Core Night 2020 – Gallery Hop
Core teaches the ACMES concepts by focusing on texts that simultaneously model good inquiry and invite students’ own further questions–about the texts themselves, and about their own stances, their “positionality,” in relation to them. Via the New York Times and a range of news sources, they engage with current events as they unfold, analyzing the reporting to identify point of view and to consider other, equally plausible, ways of presenting the story. Along the way, they learn techniques for effective collaboration, and work in groups throughout the quarter, culminating in a group project which is presented at Merrill’s annual festival of new knowledge, Core Night.
Once you enter the Merrill Core Night Gallery Hop, the main page will feature the cover images submitted by our wonderful F21 Core students. There are also two small static windows on the right – one will feature the Core Night Poster and the other will be Navigation Help regarding the website and Artsteps.

Please take the time out to view these creative projects and support Merrill’s first-year students.
